You may be wondering why you need a pediatric dentist for your child, especially if you are established with an adult dental care office that is willing to see your child. While they may be able to provide your child with adequate dental care, pediatric dental professionals such as those at Fairmount Dental Center have received specialized training that focuses on caring for children.
Specialized Care
The most important reason that you should establish your child with a pediatric dental office is because our team is trained to provide specialized care for youth. Children, especially young children, may need dental treatments that cannot be provided by a general dentist. It is much easier on your child to receive these sometimes stressful procedures from a team that they are familiar with.
What if My Child is Nervous About Seeing the Dentist?
Children can be uncomfortable in new environments. We work to ensure that our office is a comfortable and warm welcoming environment for every member of the family. Through every step of their treatment, your children will see warm and friendly faces. Every step of the treatment or procedure will be explained in child-friendly terms to the child so that they understand what to expect.
Do You See Children with Special Needs?
Each patient requires a treatment plan tailored to meet his or her individual needs. Children who have special needs require a bit more understanding and compassion. We are sensitive to the special needs of each one of our patients. We also offer sedation options that can allow your children to relax and be comfortable for the duration of their treatment.
Do You Offer Sedation for Kids?
Dental sedation has a number of useful applications in pediatric dentistry. It can work to ensure that each dental visit is a comfortable and positive experience for the young patient. At Fairmount Dental Center we provide our patients with a variety of sedation methods. Each of which can be safely used to relax children for their treatment. Both the medication and the method that is used will be based on factors that are unique to the individual patient. This could include the age, general health, and treatment recommendation for the patient.
The options for pediatric sedation can range between the very mild and a strong option. Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is the most commonly used option for sedation. This very mild gas will be safely administered to the patient, with a mask that is worn during the treatment.
What Do I Do If My Child Has a Toothache?
If your child complains about a toothache, it should be taken seriously. Until your child is able to be seen by our dentist, there are some steps that you can take to make them more comfortable at home. Rinse out their mouth with warm water, to effectively remove any food that might be lingering in the mouth. Floss gently between each tooth, to remove anything that could be lodged between the teeth. Use an oral topical pain reliever if it is needed.
